Recommended Websites Car Fuel Gauge Parts There are different types of fuel gauge that are installed in vehicles' dashboard these days. Although they differ in designs, their functions are pretty much the same. A car fuel gauge is specifically created to let the driver know how much gasoline is in the petrol tank. Most vehicles that use fuel or gasoline have a fuel gauge. It is usually located in the dashboard together with the other gauges. It looks like a clock that has only one finger, pointing either to empty, full or in between. The empty is marked with letter āEā and letter āFā for full tank. In a car, the gauge consists of two main parts - the sender and the indicator. The sender is the car fuel gauge part that measures the level of fuel in the tank. It uses a float which is usually made of foam connected to a thin metal rod and a variable resistor. When the tank is full, the resistor is set to its low resistance value. When the float moves in contact along the resistor, it increases its resistance. The indicator, meanwhile, is the self-mounted gauge in the dashboard. It measures the amount of electrical current flowing through the sending unit. If the fuel guage is not working, there must be something wrong with the sender that is located inside the petrol tank. It might also be the electrical circuit that causes the indicator to show the tank as being empty. In some cars, the indicator might be different. Recently, car manufacturers have started creating a microprocessor-controlled gauges in new car models. This type of car fuel gauge is more accurate than the floating style. Automotive
